Cam Oliver Gets His Chance Against Melbourne United

Cam Oliver and the Sydney Kings have been the talk of the NBL world this past week. With his limited opportunities, clear frustraion on the court and Brian Goorjians strange rotations, there is no wonder that he has been the centre of NBL drama. His dominate performance against Melbourne United will only add more fuel to the fire and should help him establish himself in this team and rotation.

Cam Oliver is a player that so many had high expectations for. His Cairns Taipans season was one filled with highlight plays, huge numbers and plenty of excitement, but fast forwards to this current season it has been one that many have questioned why he isn't getting his chance. His lack of minutes and role within this team have had many people in the NBL world scratching their heads and with the increased media attention around Oliver and head coach Brian Goorjian's relationship, it was a much needed increase in minutes that helped Oliver show what he can produce.

Space Cam Returns On Thursday Night Hoops

Oliver would once again started the game on the bench against Melbourne United but when given his opportunity, he would take it with both hands. The Kings centre would put up numbers of 18 points, 16 rebounds and 2 assists. The Kings would eventually go down to Melbourne United by 4 points but many came out of this game a lot more positive about the Kings than what they were going into it. Oliver is one of the best talents that NBL has ever seen and for him to be rotting away on the bench for the Sydney Kings hasn't sat well with many around the league.

The Kings and Oliver now turn their attention to last seasons NBL Champions, the Tasmanian JackJumpers as they look to get back in the winners corner after losing their past 3 games. It is clear though that Brian Goorjian needs to swallow his pride and start Cam Oliver to take the pressure off of Xavier Cooks who clearly needs help. It will be interesting to see how Oliver goes against one of the leagues best big men in Will Magney, but one thing is clear, Oliver is a man on a mission.
